AICS alumni in the spotlight
Max Westermann
Continuing our Amsterdam International Community School 'Alumni Spotlight' series, today's interview features Max Westermann, an Account Executive for Microsoft in Dublin.
I came to AICS in 2007, and stayed through until my IB graduation in 2013. Before my time at the AICS I was at St. George's International School in Switzerland.
After school I made sure to have fun and travelled in summer, and worked a restaurant service job - something I did throughout the IB as well. After the summer, I went to Hotelschool in The Hague to start my Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA). After a year, I did an internship in Hong Kong, something else I greatly encourage - combine your theoretical knowledge with practical application and experience. Later, I went on to do an MBA in Barcelona at EAE Business School.
I currently live in Dublin after moving from Berlin two years ago. Right now I'm an Account Executive working in sales at Microsoft for the Dutch Financial Services market.
My advice for current AICS students would be that you need to think about what you find most important in life, be that business, art, creativity, success, fullfillment, money, happiness or anything else, so you can (most importantly) do what you want to do it. So be stupid and make mistakes in the name of discovery - you can fix things later. It's ok to screw up if you're discovering yourself and creating core memories. Life is longer than you think, but your youth isn't, so stop and smell the flowers.
