AICS Community Garden

AICS Community Garden

In the summer of 2020, the AICS teamed up with Green Business Club Zuidas to create a community garden on an empty building plot in Zuidas.  The idea grew both metaphorically and literally, and we now have a wonderful project underway wedged between the EMA and Van der Valk Hotel.  Primary students from the South and Satellite campuses have taken part in regular activities at the garden.  The aim is not only to educate children about plants, sustainability, pollinators, and nature, but also to provide the local community with a shared space that they can use and enjoy.  We recently welcomed our first retired residents to the garden, and they even took their shoes off to experience the barefoot path!

The garden now houses a mini office workplace that all local residents, schools, and businesses can reserve through the Green Business Club.  Children from the Satellite campus continue to visit the garden on a weekly basis with our Outdoor Learning Specialist.  Children from the South campus will be taking part in a collaborative art project with a Master's student from the Vrije Universiteit, and other VU students are using the garden as a case study.  Our garden is growing, and we would be happy to hear from any individuals or organisations who would like to partner with us on activities or projects in the coming months.
