School Attendance

School Attendance

To report your child's illness or notify us of a medical or legal appointment, please use the instructions available in the ISAMS Parent Portal: Please report your child’s absence before 8:00 a.m. (this will help avoid absence notifications).

The Legal/Medical Appointments option in the ISAMS parent portal is intended only for medical visits or appointments related to legal paperwork. For example passport renewal.

Procedure for Continued Late Arrivals or Unexcused Absences

AICS monitors student absences daily, including lateness. The school is legally obligated to report unexcused absences to the Truancy Office (Bureau Leerplicht) of the local municipality where the student is registered.

Parents/guardians are responsible for informing the school via the ISAMS Parent Portal or ISAMS Parent App before 8:00 a.m. in case of expected absences or late arrivals. Please note traffic or public transportation delays may not be considered as valid excuses for late arrivals.

For more information on our school policy for attendance, please refer to our School Guide.

Requesting Extraordinary Leave

Extraordinary Leave may be requested when your child needs to be absent from school outside the scheduled school holidays due to exceptional circumstances, such as the wedding of an immediate family member.

Please note that Extraordinary Leave can only be granted once per school year and cannot be taken during the first two weeks of the school year following the summer holiday.

If you would like to request Extraordinary Leave, please:

Your request will be reviewed in accordance with the Guidelines for Leave Due to Exceptional Circumstances, which can be found on the second page of the Extraordinary Leave form. You will receive a response within 2 weeks of submitting your request.

Please note that submitting a request does not guarantee approval. We adhere to the rules and conditions set by the Bureau Leerplicht Amsterdam. Each application is considered individually and assessed in line with the school's leave guidelines.

Important Notice for Secondary Students in Top Sport or Talent Programs

If a student is participating in a top sport or talent program that affects their timetable, please contact the absence team. Make sure to include any relevant documentation from the organisation supporting your activity. Your request will be evaluated by the Wellbeing Department in consultation with the Dutch Truancy Office.
